Meet Zach Fromberg

Meet Zach Fromberg
"[CESLC] is a very worthy institution; its purpose is a great one."
– Zach Fromberg

Lending his voice to celebrate a community at an event steeped in tradition, Zach Fromberg was there on that day, when the crowd sang out joyfully as the new Fanaroff Torah was dedicated at the Hebrew Home.

A native of New York, Zach graduated from Syracuse University and Columbia Law School. While in college, he worked as a waiter, then as a counselor, at Jewish summer camps in Maine and New York. "Those were some of the best summers of my life," reflected Zach. "I met some of my closest friends at those summer camps." His first position out of law school was as an assistant US attorney in Brooklyn. He then moved on to the New York Regional Office of the National Labor Relations Board and finally came to Washington to take a position as the local Regional Counsel for one of the Navy's Bureaus. Now retired, he is active in his synagogue, Ohr Kodesh, and the Jewish Federation. Zach's beloved wife Jean, who worked in education administration, died in 2005.

Zach observes kashrut, the Jewish dietary laws, and when he moved to Washington he heard about Charles E. Smith Life Communities' (CESLC) kosher dining services. "It's a very worthy institution," says Zach, "its purpose is a great one." Zach is a member of the Builders of the Future Society. His charitable gift annuities demonstrate his long-term commitment to providing excellent care for those in our community. Zach says, "seeing [Jewish] tradition perpetuated at CESLC is very satisfying."

These days, Zach tutors one of our residents in Hebrew language as part of our volunteer program once per week. His contributions of time, expertise, and funds are very much appreciated.
